Due To New Law, Planned Parenthood Of Wisconsin Suspends All Medication Abortions
Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) announced Friday that they will be forced to end distribution of all medication abortions — known as the abortion pill — because of a new law just enacted that has too many gray areas and makes it too legally risky for the organization to continue providing the pill.
The law, Act 217, is part of Gov. Scott Walker’s (R) anti-abortion agenda, aimed at making it harder for a woman to choose an abortion.
“This is just one piece of a very anti-woman agenda put in place by this government.” said Nicole Safar, policy director for PPWI.
Specifically, Act 217 changes “informed consent” laws — the process a doctor has to follow before he or she can administer the pill. Act 217 creates criminal penalties for providers of medication abortions if they don’t follow the ambiguous legislative restrictions. And the penalties are strict. According to the bill’s language:
Under this bill, a person who gives a woman an abortion-inducing drug in a manner that violates the prohibition is guilty of a Class I felony and may be subject to a civil action. This bill specifies that a penalty may not be assessed against a woman who receives an abortion-inducing drug.
Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin gives care to about 80,000 a year. Since they will no longer be distributing the pill, it will become significantly harder to access. Women who lose the option of the abortion pill will be forced to have a surgical abortion — a more invasive procedure that can carry greater medical risks for some.
The battle over abortion in Wisconsin has been particularly fierce. Just a few weeks ago, a Planned Parenthood in the state was firebombed.

OK - You can give yourself an abortion with herbs. Of course it’s not the same, probably not as reliable, you’re on your own (ie not getting from a doctor who can give you advice/support), some ppl might not have access to the right plants, might have a bad reaction, etc, etc… But there are herbs out there that will cause miscarriage. The knowledge & info is out there. People have been doing it for thousands of years. No one should be forced to carry a pregnancy they don’t want, or forced into a surgery they don’t want. Check it.
Planned Parenthood does not recommend or advocate for at-home and/or unsafe, illegal abortions. Although more expensive, it is always exceptionally safer to receive abortion services from trained professionals at a clinic or hospital. Ones health is far too important to put risk it with folk-lore or experimental methods of termination.
It’s funny, in my state medication abortions is ALL they’re allowed to do, and there’s only two places to get it in the entire state. By funny I mean sad.

This is an outrage. To think, these men do not know and do not care about how many women they are alienating and making unsafe. The facts are that women will have abortion regardless of whether it is legal or safe because the facts are some women know that they cannot carry a baby to term, or that they are not ready, or any reason. It does not matter the reason.
If a woman does not want to keep a baby, they will not do so.
That is just how it is.
If they do illegal or unsafe abortions, they are putting their lives in danger. It has been seen. It is a known fact that in places where abortion is illegal, or where regulations are tight and keep women from slipping through the single small loophole into being able to actually have access to an abortion that in those places women have them anyway and then they become sterile, or mutilated, or dead.
And sites like this? They shock and terrify, but do not offer real data and do not offer real support. These sites are the kinds of sites that cis men go to when they are in office and they use as support. This site promotes chastity and “safe” environments for pregnant women, which, by the way, Republicans fight against as well because they just truly hate anyone who isn’t ab white cis male, preferably one who is rich or middle class as well.
